About Caratlytics
Caratlytics is the methodology and data brand of Carat Hunter. This site is where the scoring standard lives; Carat Hunter is where it is applied to live inventory.
Carat Hunter is a diamond search engine that monitors more than one hundred retailers, matches identical stones across them by certificate, and retains the full price history of every listing. The Caratlytics Score grew out of a simple problem: laboratory grading describes the stone, but buyers also need to know whether the price is fair and the data trustworthy.
We publish the methodology here, in full and versioned, for three reasons. Buyers deserve to see exactly how a score is computed before trusting it. Retailers deserve a fixed, public target rather than a black box. And we believe scrutiny makes the methodology better: if you find an error in this specification, we want to know.
Caratlytics also publishes the Diamond Price Index, a monthly openly licensed measure of retail diamond prices, because the underlying dataset answers questions the industry usually answers with anecdotes.
Caratlytics and Carat Hunter
Same team, two roles. Caratlytics defines the standard: the specification, the grade scale, the index. Carat Hunter applies it: every certified diamond there carries a Caratlytics Score computed by this methodology. We disclose the relationship on every page because a standard you cannot trace is not a standard.
